| Today, Mikhail, Michael, Ashley, Tim, Rory, and I made a lot of progress on our project, Collaborative Cooking. We started our day in the classroom where we continued to add and refine our idea of creating a club at the Middle School where students would be able to make snacks that are both tasty and healthy. After deciding upon the basic idea of what we were going to do we ended up refining it, and making a game where we had 5 healthy ingredients, and 5 unhealthy ingredients, and the kids would have to make a snack with these ingredients. From there, we would have judges that score the snacks based on how healthy and how tasty they are. After we finished coming up with this we pitched our idea to the class, and received a lot of feedback. After receiving this feedback and speaking with Mrs. Ricci, Mr. Tate, and Mr. D we decided that we were going to try and come up with a new idea. After moving to the auditorium and staying there for quite some time, we concluded that it would be best if instead of making it a club, we could just make it a workshop. In addition to making it a workshop, we added some ideas that our peers suggested, such as adding a recipe book. After re-pitching this idea to the class, and receiving more feedback, we decided that it would be best to continue to refine and add to the workshop idea, as we believe that this is the most effective way to encourage middle school students to eat healthy. |

Expanding upon Jacob's summary of the feedback we received, the different questions asked by the class and teachers helped us understand the importance of giving descriptive details about each area of our project while presenting to the Harvard judges. During the short presentations about our work, many people asked questions that we had answers to but either did not clearly state or left out completely. Overall, it was a very productive day with many different perspectives gained from the comments made by our peers.
ReplyDeleteI think what Jacob says above is completely accurate. Our groups has a lot of work in the coming days. having said this I still have confidence that our group will come up with a novel and effective idea to solve our problem. Our group is continuing to work well together and is becoming more comfortable discussing different ideas. I have no doubt our group synergy will serve us well in the future.
ReplyDeleteSounds about right! We definitely put in a lot of valuable work today toward refining our goal and process. We still have quite a ways to go, but I think we've put ourselves in a good place now that we've laid down our foundation. Hopefully after today's work the project's feasibility is now recognizable, while keeping it engaging for our audience. I look forward to developing this idea as we work onward.
ReplyDeleteAfter receiving a lot of feed back from peers and teachers, I think that our group as a whole was feeling pretty discouraged. After we came back from lunch, I know that I was feeling particularly tired and unfocused so moving to the auditorium for a change of scenery helped quite a lot. I think that the feedback and ideas that came out of today really helped to focus our group and change in a better direction.
ReplyDeleteTo add onto Jacob's post, I would like to further describe the role that feedback played in our process. After receiving comments from our teachers and classmates, we realized that we probably had to rework our project somewhat to ensure its feasibility. I'm glad that we were willing to let go of the idea of having a class in order to create a more realistically scaled project. We learned today that it's important to not over-commit to a certain idea when trying to develop an answer to our guiding question.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are getting somewhere, but I'm not sure I understand the problem you are trying to answer. I'm also not sure if all of you know where this is going. I'd be happy to speak with you if you'd like a (semi) outside party to bounce ideas off of. Let me know!
